11/07/2025, 93 trainees who are the beneficiaries of the Community Roads Empowerment (CORE), under the Japan Social Development Fund (JSDF) project graduated with certifications in Routine Maintenance Contractors Course, after completing a six-week training program conducted by the Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT).
Guests including CORE Board Chairman Professor Kiptanui Too, KIHBT Director Arch. Geoffrey Githiri, and Engineer Theuri from the Project Management Office under the Ministry of Roads and who represented Roads Principal Secretary (PS) graced the occasion.
Various stakeholders including the County Government of Meru led by Lands, Physical Planning, Urban Development CEC Joy Karwitha Kiugu, Kenya Roads Board (KRB), Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), among others who made the project a success were represented.

Today marked the last Day of the 3-day-Entreprenuership Training for Small Micro Enterprises (SME’s) formed by Community Roads Empowerment’s (CORE) under JSDF Project. The training which kicked off on Tuesday was facilitated by Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology (KIHBT). Some of the topics covered during the training included Contractor management processes, Business registration, Government funding by Uwezo & Youth funds, and KRA compliance matters among several others.

Today marked the last Day of the 6 weeks of Training for selected 100 beneficiaries of Small Micro Enterprises (SME’s) formed by Community Roads Empowerment’s (CORE) under JSDF Project. The training was taking place at The Meru National Polytechnic for theoretical part and practicals on selected roads within the Meru Municipality. The exercise was facilitated by experts from Kenya Institute of Highways and Building Technology(KIHBT). The trainees gained valuable experience on road construction and maintenance and are expected to use the same skills for contracts from the County government as well as other government agencies including Kenya Urban Roads Authority (KURA), and Kenya Rural Roads Authority (KeRRA).
